Hospitals have important obligations in the struggle to reduce the use of tobacco and its deleterious health effects. These obligations include not only a tobacco-free environment to protect non-smokers but also the provision of active support for smokers in their quitting process. This concerns patients as well as all categories of personnel.
.

ENSH is an independent, international, non-profit association devoted to strengthen the capacity of hospitals and health care services and their health and staff workers in tobacco control. ENSH’s mission is to contribute to global tobacco control by promoting tobacco-free hospitals and health care services, whilst fostering, endorsing and supporting the active role of health care services in tobacco control by implementing the

ENSH code and standards as part of coordinated public health actions. ENSH helps empowerment of health care professionals to overcome resistance to change and to create effective tobacco-free hospitals and health care services.

Do you need information on how effectively implement a tobacco free policy in a hospital or health care service?

ENSH has developed a guide with the strategy to develop a stepped project which is adapted to each regional/national culture and particular health care system, connecting with policymakers, and networking with tobacco control advocates and stakeholders.

In addition, herre you can find a selection of problems adressed : how to take care of a hospitalized smoker, how hospital staff can assist pregnant women to give up smoking, ,what smoking cessation training programmes exist in several European countries and what professional practices should be used in order to control tobacco.

The ENSH launches a new self-audit questionnaire tool online

The ENSH has developed a new application software which allows hospital coordinators to fill and submit the self-audit questionnaire online.

This new tool will allow project coordinators to send the questionnaire quickly and securely through the internet. Up to now, it has been launched in  English, Spanish, Catalan and Swedish, but we hope to increase the number of national languages soon.

You can find the application on: http://www.xchsf.com/enshselfaudit/self_audit_index.html
