First stage: INTEREST
Hospital registers interest with the National/Regional Smoke-free Network by returning a Letter of Interest, nominates a relevant contact person for the hospital and multidisciplinary working group is establish within the hospital.
Second stage: MEMBERSHIP STATUS
Completion of the self-audit questionnaire will assist the hospital to identify the relevant areas for action and assist the of the specific action plan for the next year.Specific Action plans need to be specific and measurable and outline the steps that will be take to reach the set objectives.On completion of this process, the hospital needs to send a copy of the completed Self Audit Questionnaire and action plan to the national/regional network, along with a Letter of Commitment from management confirming the name and contact details of relevant contact person for the hospital.On receipt of these completed documents the national/regional network will register the hospital with the European Network and will receive an ENSH Membership Certificate.
Third stage: CATEGORY STATUS
Evaluate progress after at least 12 months participation in the initiative. Hospitals will then be required to undertake an evaluation of their action plans, report on achievements and progress and complete and return the European Self Audit Questionnaire again.On receipt of the completed Self Audit Questionnaire the hospital will receive either a renewal of the ENSH Membership Certificate or attainment of a specific category certificate i.e. ENSH Bronze, Silver or
Gold Certificate.
